Disgraced Ex-Blue Jay of the Month: March
Christopher James - March 18, 2003

I think that no matter what happens from now until the end of March, without a doubt the first Disgraced Ex-Blue Jay of the Month has to be the recently released "thief du jour" Pasqual Coco.

Once considered a gem of the Toronto farm system, Coco decided last week that maybe Ruben Rivera had the right idea, and stole several hundred dollars in cash from fellow pitching prospect, and long-time minor-league roommate, Diegomar Markwell. Coco blamed the Blue Jays and their inability to recognize his great talents for his actions, and stated that a full explanation would be given after another team picked him up (maybe Texas--they signed Rocker after the Braves and Sports Illustrated made him bad-mouth every minority in the world & Carl Everett after Boston made him a .257 hitter).

So yes, almost a year to the day since Rivera stole Derek Jeter's bat and glove (you wonder why Jeter's average dipped last year - you try hitting without a bat), Coco raises the stakes, stealing not only from a minor-leaguer, but from a friend. Nice work Pasqual.
