Item: Blue Jays trade 3B Corey Koskie to the Brewers for pitching prospect Brian Wolfe
Christopher James:
Koskie to the Brewers for a bucket of balls and a new pitching rubber
We could use a good pitching rubber, and, with Glaus in town, a few extra BP balls wouldn't hurt. We have a third baseman, three of them in
fact. Good luck in Mil. Town Koskie. Give Little Big Daddy a hug for us, and
remember to mind those thumbs when sliding.
Jim Turner:
It would be nice if the Jays could have gotten A) something more than Brian
Wolfe, 25-year-old reliever who just got out of A-ball or B) More than $2
million in salary relief per year for Koskie. You would think that some team
out there would have more to offer. But it's also possible that Ricciardi
just wanted the 4-headed third base problem solved as quickly as possible,
and it's not like the $7 million will cripple the club.
It felt like Koskie was always one play away from being really embraced by
Jays fans. He'd make a diving stop, or track down a foul ball, but then
strike out with the tying run on second - or he'd double in a pair of runs
and then throw a ball away to spark an opposing rally. It's too bad that the
Canadian experiment didn't pay off, but Jays fans really won't care where
Troy Glaus is from once he starts knocking down fences.
Sean Doyle:
You have to figure that Hinske, Koskie, and perhaps even Hillenbrand were shopped to every team out there, and if this is the best the Jays could do, then I'm OK with this. It would have been a distraction to the team to have Koskie in camp along with his replacement - the Felix Potvin/Curtis Joseph thing comes to mind. JP likely felt it was worth a couple million to avoid something like that. It is also good for Koskie to be on a team which is close to home, has an everyday spot for him, and which looks like a pretty good team. I bet the Milwaukee Baseball Guys, whoever they may be, are looking forward to '06 as much as us.
Joel Williams:
Classic, "Take my wife, please." And Milwaukee is a poor, stupid bachelor.
